822's were always of the "Custom" line. That's what the 8XX series are. Just in the past few years, Yamaha began engraving their name and other stuff on all their instruments. I was told (but it sounds a little farfetched) that they began engraving because they finally found a laser process that didn't disturb the properties of the bells. While a good horn to some,the YCB 822 has never gained the popularity of the 822 F, which might affect its resale value.
