Regarding pulling the #1 slide,

I have my Getzen CB50 currently configured with the flat whole-step set-up, and that makes #5 too long for the high F, so I pull the #1 slide and it works. Now, if I use the flat half-step set-up, using 2+5 makes the F smack-dab in tune. I wonder, therefore, if having a flat whole step AND a flat half step (like on the 6-valve F tubas) would eliminate the need to pull the #1 slide.

IOW, if you've got a 5th and 6th valve, even if your first valve can't get some things in tune, couldn't those notes be fixed with combinations involving 5 and 6?
