I first saw the Kelly mouthpieces at the annual NAPBIRT Convention in Cleveland, just over a week ago. I bought a "Kellyberg" model from Mr. Kelly, and really like it. Since they are molded and not machined, they are not made using cutters that gradually wear out, so every one is the same. He is offering three different tuba mouthpiece sizes, and the Kellyberg has a rim and inner dimensions very much like the large Helleberg. Mine is clear Lexan, but Mr. Kelly said that they will be made in a full array of colors. At the convention booth, I heard several repair technician/trumpet players testing the mouthpieces, comparing them to their regular mouthpieces. The Kelly mouthpieces sounded as good as metal mouthpieces to me. As a good, inexpensive mouthpiece, particularly for outdoor playing, I think Mr. Kelly has a winner.
