Can use it to measure dynamics. Play Pares Scales and see how wide a dynamic range you can make consistantly. Also play scales to see if any notes project less than other in the scale. The dynamically weaker notes will also tend to not have the clearest sound quality. Confirm this by recording yourself.

Don't overuse the dB meter though as it can distract you from a smooth musical line.
