I read the string bass excerpt section from the Simandl New Method for Double Bass. When I was in high school, I learned tuba while I was a bass clarinetist. Sometimes I would read out of the Voxman Introduction to the Alto and Bass Clarinet. That particilar practice kept me reading treble cleff Bb as well as bass cleff exercises.

In the Simandl, I would alternate reading at written pitch and transpose the octave for fun.
