I have an old Boosey and Hawkes horn which is similar to a 981 and I use it for all my playing which is about 15% pops orchestra, 10% band work, 60% quintet, 5% tuba/euph quartet (high tuba part), and 5% jazz/dixie. I do not play in any very large groups however. I just did a choral society orchestral gig on the VW Sea Symphony and for some low parts could have used a bigger horn but there were also many high exposed parts where I prefered having the Eb horn. I also have a King BBb which I will occassionally use on the band or pops gigs.
