I'm sure that the demonstration you witnessed was legitimate, and hopefully you actually used it yourself on your own instrument.
The demonstrations that have been reported to me of the Conn Dent Eraser (at national or state teacher conferences) involved repairing a paper-thin bottom bow (with spider cracks yet) over and over for each new group of folks that would congregate at the booth.
My employee (an Ed. major who witnessed just such a demonstration) swears that if he ever stumbles across such a demonstration again - and is given the opportunity to re-dent the bottom bow - will give it a nice big whack on the INSIDE of the curve, just for fun.
