The standard instrumentation for a German military band calls for two F (bass) tubas and two BBb (contrabass) tubas.
The current tuba section of the U.S. Army Field Band features Dan Sherlock (section leader) on a 'brunner F with Scott Cameron and Matt Nelson on 6/4 CCs. Add the bass trombone (Dave Hough - I think he eats raw meat) into the mix and you get a fantastic sound from the low brass. Maybe your local library or school can obtain some of the Field Band's recent CDs. Definitely worth a listen.
