Berliner Pumpen basically are two-story rotors, which are pushed up and down in stead of rotated. They date back to the early history of valved brasses.

The shown sample (alternatively found via the link given below here) hints that the Pumpen-casing is seated inside a tubing, which holds the brazed "ears" for the attached tubing. The repair/design/restoration wizards of TubeNet surely could tell whether this is a measure taken to avoid the high-temperature brazing process skewing the Pumpen-casing.
