My Alex CC came with one of those (a nicely engineered one at that). Despite the hardware fix, at theend of the first season I took it off of the instrument and lapped in the first and second slides. Second has a combo thumb ring/puller gizmo that I use for one or two notes when the horn is really cold or really hot. (Thanks for the photos, Ron bishop!)
It seems to me that I must have "de-bugged my software," as indeed the beastie has become much easier to control with experience, allowing me to migrate over from that hated tuning rod to more conventional tuning measures using the first slide.
Funny how that works.
