Joe, I'm not quite what you were hoping for in your post. You mentioned the scenario of the tuba and its sharpness. Then you asked if others have had the same experience. When others said they have and offered what I'm sure they felt were constructive ways to play this horn in tune, you seemed to only get irritated by their attempts to answer your question.
So, was the purpose of your post a seeking for a solution or to complain about the horn? Do you want to find a solution for your student or do you want to him/her to get another instrument? Do you also want all others to stop using these instruments until they conform to what you deem normal pitch standards in this country? Are you irritated that others have found a working solution for this problem?
Just wondering.
