A 4/4 CC is the best all-around tuba for use in quintet and orchestra (usual stuff) if that is what works for you. I found it a little odd that you did not mention the F tuba, which a few people have used exclusively in their careers. I do not claim to be fabulous at any-keyed tuba, but I have had very satisfying professional experiences with tubas in all keys. As an instrument repair person, let me throw out this generalization; A well-manufactured instrument that is well-maintained is the best all-around tuba for any situation. Meanwhile, I still think that the Martin jumbo sousaphone in BBb is the best all-around tuba for quintet and orchestral works, unless you're fabulous on CC (Please don't shoot me, Russ) ;^)
