I'll add another opinion suggesting that you go for it!
I just wanted to mention the lady that I know who got to play some Hawaiian guitar in her late 20's (that's when she started), stopped after the summer and didn't take it up again until she was over 60 - now at 70 she plays up a storm - so I would question the difficulty of taking up strings or piano later, too.
As for physical characteristics, I'm pretty heavy set (the P.C. term), and I have asthma, but I supply enough air to play just fine (in fact playing tuba seems to be pretty good asthma therapy).
All you need is a good teacher to get you started an the opportunity to play. As was mentioned before, community bands are great - the one I'm in is a pretty good social environment, as well as a regular chance to play.
