I think what you are talking about is a convertible tuba. Convertible tubas come with 2 leadpipes so you can march with them on your shoulder or use them on your lab as a regular upright piston tuba. Convertibles kill your shoulders but play in tune better than sousaphones. I would only get one if I were a band director that did not have a budget large enough to buy sousaphones for marching season and upright tubas for concert season.
Contrabass bugle's are what the drum corps use. I think they pitched in G but I am not sure. You probably don't want to mess around with learning those fingerings if they are pitched in G. I hope this helps.
