Here are a couple of differences:
HB-21 | HB-2P |
---|
short straight leadpipe
York style
looped leadpipe
Conn style
.770 bore
.750 bore
developed in the early 1990's
developed in the early 1980's
Slightly larger
Average 4/4 size
more of an "open wrap" layout of the branches
conventional wrapping
Set both horns side by side and the only differences you will notice from a distance is the pretzel'ed leadpipe of the HB-2P. Personally, I think the HB-2P to be the better overall instrument. The 2P's I have played have been more intune instruments and more consitant from top to bottom than any HB-21 I have played on.
All in all, I prefer the newer B&S Perantucci's or 4/4 Walter Nirschl to the Hirsbrunners in the 4/4-5/4 sizes. When it comes to the big horns, though, the Yorkbrunner wins hands down in both sound and playability, in my opinion. A good Yorkbrunner plays with the ease of a small horn and with such efficiency that projection is an effortless endeavor.
