I recently got the opportunity to play under Larry Rachleff who is the conductor-in-residence at Rice. He was absolutely amazing, great rehersal techniques (never got boring-hard thing to say coming from a tubist!), very energetic and an all round great guy. I know having a great resident conductor at a College isn't a big thing, but it's an extra tick in the box if it comes down to the wire.
