The one thing about Texas music schools is that there are quite a few with a very fine reputation: SMU, UT, UNT, Rice, TCU (home of the Van Cliburn Institute), Baylor.
I studied with Richard Murrow, the tuba teacher at TCU, for 7 years, and I must say that he is an absolutely wonderful musician, teacher, and all around person. He has great things to say, and he still leaves a lasting impression on me when I have the chance to take a lesson with him.
