Well, this is just conjecture from me --

I tried out a PT-3P, and liked it a lot. I own a VMI 3302 because it plays a lot like a PT-3, except with a darker and bigger sound. The current PT-4P is sized right about the same as the 3302.

Comapring my 3302 to a 186 Mirafone, mine projects better, and has cleaner articulations -- both factors contribute to an all-around tuba that'll do well in orchestra, brass ensemble, or quintet. If the PT-4P is anything at all like the 3302, it'll probably fit the bill. A PT-6 might be too big for most quintets, and a PT-3 might be too bright for most orchestra music and brass groups.

Whether you like how it plays or not is up to you, of course... :-)

Seeya,
Leland
