My first inclination is to tell you that it is not compensating. The horn you own came from a Marine Corps Band, probably between the wars. The only thing you have to ask youself is is the horn worth it to YOU to be fixed up. Personally, I love old horns and I would drop some money in it to have it in top playing condition. Joe S. or Lee Stofer will hopefully chime in with their opinions. They are both top repair guys(great players too). Sounds to me like you have a perfect horn for your given situation.
