The Willson 5/4 is not quite the same as the old Kurath CC. It has a different bore and is not quite as tall.
I have not played this instrument but I used to own a Kurath CC tuba and liked it very much. That is until I heard myself on a few broadcast recordings with the LA Phil. In fact I heard way too much of myself! The horn had incredible projection and could get on any microphone within a six mile radius. The sound was incredible but it was too much work to stay under the orchestra. I sold it shortly after. This is the only tuba I got rid of because it projected too well!
FYI Willy Kurath and Willson are one in the same. Willson is just a trade name that the company uses to market it’s tubas and euphs
