This may be effective, but in my understanding it may be dangerous as well. Thrusting the jaw forward puts you at risk of developing TMJ syndrone (Temporal Mandibular Joint, or the jaw hinge...). Some people are relaxed and natural enough to pull this off without any problems in the long run, but others (those who play with any tension whatsoever) risk creating long term torture for themselves. It is somewhat akin to carpal tunnel; you get it from doing something wrong for too long, and then you have it forever.

I would instead focus on lip placement, shape, and air steam as primary variables and leave the jaw where it natuarlly rests. If this means that you have to tilt your head or change the way you hold the horn, it is certainly preferable to living in constant pain.
