Please advise a college tuba major.
Said student already owns a Hirsbrunner 4/4 CC instrument for orchestral and wind ensemble work. He is looking ahead to obtain a second tuba for quintet and solo work. While I am not saying price is not an object, assume that he has a budget of $7 to $10k for this purchase. What horn would you suggest? Is there a trend in college tuba programs to consider the Eb as good a choice as an F? Would there be any reason to not buy the Eb? Or is there any reason to take the $10k budget and buy 2 horns? All input appreciated.
Said student also has an extensive jazz background (tenor and bass trombone) and is interested in jazz tuba - does this tip the purchase towards Eb or not?
