Many (Most?)folks play 'em with the TOP lip in, Bottom lip on the rim or out. If the bottom lip goes ON the rim (not outside, but not IN) you'll still have some flexibility.

I know that Stauffer's book mentions bottom lip in exclusively; However, only a few tubists I've met (your mileage may vary) actually do it this way. Top lip-in seems to fit the airstream direction & jaw motion ('down') that most make when going from mid to low. Taking the bottom lip out seems the next logical step.

For kicks I tried the bottom lip-in method. Even though my bottom lip's got more meat than the top, it didn't work at all for me. Perhaps some can't do the top lip? I think having a square jaw &/or slight underbite helps (my lower jaw's narrow).

Time for a survey on this! Although the ulimate answer is "whatever works", How many out there Pedal with Top-lip versus Bottom-lip?
