First of all, I am amatuer and just started learning Viennese tube 2 years ago after I came to Vienna to join UN. Therefore, my knowredge is limited and only came from my teacher Hr Zechmeister, who learned Viennese tuba at Viennese Music University from Hr Kohler, tubist of Vinna Philharmony for 1946-1971. (Prof Kohler is 81 and ok.) Having told that... Size; I have seen one made in Vienna maybe more than 100 years ago, which blongs to Vinna Conservatoir. This is samll, maybe similar to one Mr Jacobs played. Just bigger than Euphonium. Sound is very intensive. Musica (UMI, AUstria) new one is bigger, which I have. Maybe Hursburner is bigger than Musica. (I have seen only photo of Brassissimo Vienna>) Mainl Vienese is big, same as C tuba. Alexander, I do not know. I was told Mainl and Alexander sound was rather dark since thick material. Valve arrangement; For me it is difficult to explain. If you like I will send you photoes, pls inform fax # to roshima(AT)akis.at.
