Lots of people will tell you that a 4/4 horn is appropriate for this, and a 6/4 is appropriate for that, but you have to remember that is theirview form their perspective. What really matters is what YOU think. If you love the sound of the big horn, get the big horn. Since it's a new horn you should get an evaluation period - try it in a quintet, see how it drives. Experiment with mouthpieces, especially the smaller ones and the funnel-shaped ones, to see if they make a lighter and/or clearer sound.

I played a 6/4 horn exclusively for over 4 years in the D.C. area - I did everything from Brass Quintets to Wind Ensembles to Bands to Orchestras, and I did ok for myself. I switched to a CB50 a couple of months ago since I'm playing a whole lot less these days, so a 6/4 wasn't right for me anymore. But if it's the sound YOU want, then go for it.
