I think I'm going to jump in on this one, too. It sounds to me like you know what you are getting yourself into. You know that this large tuba won't make everything better. You even know that it will make some things harder (5tet for example). So long as you know what you are getting into, I say go for it. When you are producing the sound you want, it's that much easier to practice!
