I would not think that this would resolve the problem. Here are a few things you may try:
1. On the mouthpiece, buzz the phrase you are playing. Make it a smooth and connected buzz with no harsh air punches (use a piano if necessary to be sure you are on key).
2. Blow a stream of air on the back of your hand and mentally imagine the phrase (keep the air stream smooth and steady)
3. Sing the part the way you would like it to sound
4. Work backwards: play the last note as best you can..then the last two, three, four, etc.
5. Increase the dymamic level and blow right through the 'plosives'
6. Slow it down, play it down a step, up a step
These "bumps" are likely a broken airstream, or relying on the horn to produce the sound (through the adding of valves) rather than the buzz. I own both vented and non-vented horns and do not detect a difference in regards to legato playing.
