I have heard about vented valves, but have never actually played on a tuba with them. How does this affect playing, if at all, other than the obvious slide pulling effect? Are there tubas which are made with vented valves or is this usually done by repair people on the aftermarket? Is there a web site or book which describes the most common ways that this is accomplished?
