Lou has a point. As long as you have enough slide length to get in pitch and have the slide stay safely in, what does it matter? Alright, it can make a small difference, but you are talking about tweaking at that point. Besides, everyone plays differently. Lenthen and shorten are common repair requests. A manufacturer can't desingn for every variation in the population. The proper way for a manufacturer to state pitch is: With how much of the slide pulled will the theoretical AVERAGE, GOOD tubist play the note at whatever frequency. There has to be a reference point to make a valid statement.
