As far as a "different way of playing goes", I'd suggest finding the best tubist (or one of the best) in your area, then go phone him/her for some lessons. It's always great to get feedback from another pair of ears who may also know just what you're going through. As far as the mouthpiece "thing" goes, a bigger piece will facilitate putting a bigger bottom on the band. However, it's probably not going to make your articulations any clearer. My advice is to get private instruction right away.
