I had the opportunity to play in a chamber ensemble this past week with a trumpeter who was playing a Monette trumpet. He was getting such a great sound, that I made an effort to speak with him during a rehearsal. His trumpet was in raw brass and had a beautiful, and very even, dull brown/tan patina. I ask him how long it took for him to achieve the finish and he told me that it looked like that directly upon receipt from the factory and required zero maintenance. All I could say is that the horn looked as beautiful as it sounded!!

My question is......how do they achieve this finish? My current tuba is in raw brass and I would like some direction on how get the finish to "look-like" the finish on this incredible trumpet. I know that eventually, it will happen with normal exposure, but how do you achieve this so evenly and without years of exposure?

Thank you for any advice you can provide.

Best regards,
dmm
