You mean the 5th was added in the 4th loop (that is to say only works if 4th is engaged)?
Is it for getting out low F (a flat whole step added to the 4th in other words)?

Just curious. Most tubists poo-poo dependant valve systems because it limits the number of alternate fingerings that the valve is useful for. I know that some bass-bones are still made this way, but they are not so popular anymore now that Thayers and similar mega-flow valves are now available. If mega-open-ness is what is needed, why not put in a mega-bore rotor after the main tuning slide?
