Would it be possible for you to use a stool? This has the advantage of allowing you to sit at the same level as those who are standing creating a uniform appearance. I've found that it is best to get a padded wooden bar-stool and cut an inch or so off the legs. This seems to provide the proper height for comfortable tuba playing.
