if you mean buzzing without the mouthpiece, I use it VERY sparingly with my students. I think it helps show to cetain students that the embouchure muscles are involved in a larger area than just what part of the lip is inside the mouthpiece. not for buzzing music, just a note or two. If a student is having a hard time producing anything close to a high note, the lip position may be the problem. The high note embouchure is basically the same with or without the mouthpiece, but too many kids rely on jamming the mouthpiece into the face to help get high note.
I know this is a controversial subject, so I expect to get some flack for this.
