I performed the piece on numerous occasions, including the first round in Lahti, Finland at the 2001 International Tuba Euphonium Conference Artist Euphonium Competition. I played the first movement to start out quite brisk. It is more of a "Cantabile" type movement in which the middle and ending sections (including the cadenza) should be taken at what tempo the soloist feels comfortable. The 2nd movement is rather slow. Follow those tempo's. They're pretty accurate. The 3rd movement moves. It feels as if it is in 3/4 time, but it is in 6/8. Great piece of music. I'm glad to hear you're aspiring to perform it! If you need any help or questions, feel free to email me. brandonjones1(AT)hotmail.com I hope some of my comments helped you!
