I have worked in a facility where I prepped instruments for long-term storage. For an instrument such as yours, I would chemically clean the instrument then wash it out thoroughly. Just as important, I would then make sure it was completely dried out inside and out, grease the slides well using a synthetic grease with PTFE, and assemble the valves, completely clean and dry. For the silver exterior, a thorough cleaning with Tarni-shield, a silver polish with excellent tarnish inhibitors is recommended. I have stored instruments in this manner with good results, even in a hot attic. When you do retrieve it, all you would have to do is oil the valves it's ready to play. If you DON"T prepare the horn carefully, well, you'll most likely be visiting an instrument repairman when you get it back out. If you want assistance, I'm in the Southeast- e-mail me privately.
