Let's not forget key changes, repeats, endings, codas, and D.S. signs. I find that a yellow highlighter has saved my hide on many occasions (but I would never mark someone else's music without permission, and NEVER mark rented music with one). I believe that it's considered legitimate use to photocopy printed music so that the copy can be highlighted if the original is in the folder and the photocopy is destroyed immediately after the last performance.
