For me, the biggest problem with UPS is the LAST step in the shipping system.
That's the UPS person who actually puts (or drops/slams in my experience) the
shipment on your porch.
I have sent and recieved many tubas from all over the country through Amtrak with no problems whatsoever. The most recent from California to me on the east coast.
Go Amtrak. They rock. Trains travel much closer to the ground and are easier to load.
AND - the rates are MORE than reasonable.
Just my opinion.
