It's the same in reverse, too. I just received a piece of photo gear that I bought from a fellow in Germany in September. It was sent by insured air mail, and took six weeks. Normal is two weeks.
My strong suspicion it that by the time I finally got it, it had been radiated in a couple of different ways to make sure there were no bugs in it. The timing of this purchase wasn't good: It arrived at the Washington Dulles general mail facility in the second week of October.
