That's strange. If it was made before the Soviets partitioned East Germany, it would say "Made in Western Germany". After that, it would say "Made in West Germany" up through 1990. "Made in Germany" is a post-unification usage. These were the rules set up for manufactured goods imported into the U.S., which is implied by the English on the label. One presumes that if it was made solely for the Austrian market, it would not same "Made in Germany" but would probably say something like "FDR" if I'm remembering the initials correctly.

And I'd doubt it was pre-war, because I understood that Miraphone was a cooperative created after WWII by dislocated craftsmen from the Graslitz area.
