Now you know why I left architecture school. After pulling my average 3.4 all-nighters per week, and getting a C (after a whole semester of positive statements from the prof), I decided that if they can't tell me how to be good, they don't need to be teachers and I don't need to be their student. I switched to engineering, and my level of sleep went way up just as my grades dropped. I also went from senior to sophomore--that's how important the sleep had become.

But there was a problem in engineering school, too. In Texas, at the time I was in college, a music undergraduate degree required 120 credit hours. Engineering required 142, even without the detour through architecture. I don't know about you, but for me that adds up to an extra semester and an extra summer.

As the fellow across the hall in the dorm used to tell me: Welcome to college.
