Generally, the Conn's I've played have had good priviledged tones, sometimes called false tones. If you can play the low Eb open, you can also, with practice, play low D with second valve, Db 1st, low C 1-2, B-natural 2-3, so that you have the entire range with 3 valves. Even though my Conn 34J has 4 valves, the priviledged tones are good enough that I still use these fingerings, for the intonation is better. At any rate, practice in this range will make you a stronger tuba player!
