I was at the Detroit Symphony's performance of the Rite of Spring last Friday evening. Wesley Jacobs played his F; the 2nd tuba - program did not give him credit - alternated with a BAT and what appeared to be a smaller CC - or a huge F? -, (manufacturer unknown as I did not take my binoculars). At no time was there a rush to move from one instrument to the other. Obviously, you are not locked in to a single horn. Also, Mr. Jacobs has switched from his F to CC on several of the works to which I have been. If a flute player can switch to piccolo, what's to a tubist from switching from CC to F?
