But, in a pinch... if you NEED a fff low note and don't have time to practice it up... I use an embouchure shift into the bottom of my mouthpiece if I can't get things below a contra F to come out loud enough. It's totally a crutch, and the sound quality isn't as good, but if you need sheer volume, that'll do it.
Eric, who has to use four embouchures to survive anymore...
