I have been out of work since June of 2001. I have applied to literally thousands of positions throughout the country, have been a finalist for dozens, and have yet to get an offer. I am therefore going back to school to work on a Ph.D. (in business, not music) with the intention of teaching in a college somewhere.

I find that playing tuba, or any instrument helps me relax and not make myself crazy about the job situation. Being a tuba player, even for us amateurs, is part of who we are. A job pays the bills, and if you're lucky, or smart, it's something that you love doing, but jobs come and go as do many things in our lives. The pleasure that tuba playing can bring you, and hopefully others, can be significant, even in light of a job loss.

Good luck.
