I had a B and H 981 EE flat (circa 1983) 19" bell Imperial, and had the metal guides changed for plastic. This tuba just had the rectangular 'taquet' screwed into the side of the valve (as opposed to the newer ones that fit into the valve from the top). The resulting plasic taquet (I think was just pushed in, not screwed) looked very flimsy, but with care, I didn't break any off in the 7 years I played it. I carried a few spare just in case! It was worth the change: less like an old tractor engine...
