The Rotax rotor claims to have 100% volumetric efficiency. They are larger insize externally because they are disigned to be easier to take apart. They come apart from the front and I believe also from the back like a conventional rotor. I have a Willson tuba with the rotax valve and a friend is a repair professional who knows more about this than I do. Hirshbrunner is not using them for the 5th valve on some of their horns. I know they use them on the new HB21 and Yorkbrunner. They switched because the standard rotor is very difficult to shoehorn out of all the tubing that is in the way I am told and the rotax is easier. I don't know if they are better performing than a stardard rotor but I do know that they are a lot more expensive than a standard one.
