I can't tell you about cutting a B&H, but I own a Besson 1968-vintage CC that was obviously made by Boosey from BBb and Eb parts. One quite noticeable thing is that instead of the dummy handrest that the BBb Booseys have, the handrest is actually the top of that same loop, so it's pretty obvious where some of the shortening came about. FWIW, the intonation on this instrument is very good.
I think a mistake would be to take the length from the main tuning slide, as there's usually not much there to work with.
