A wonderful source of confusion is that the saxhorns are grouped into the higher-voiced and lower-voiced members, the so called "whole tube" and "half tube" members. There's some overlap in the middle range, so the tenor, baritone and bass saxhorns can all occur with a pitch of Bb. Sax referred to the low Eb member as a "contrebasse"; however, in 19th century band literature, it was often referred to as the Eb bass.
