The A is the most common tuning note given for an orchestra (icluding brass). Its a good idea to keep your own tuner to intonate your horn. The only problem with this is that many orchestras tune sharp, making it difficult for brasses to tune. Experiment with your A and find out where it lays on your tuba. If I had to guess, on a Miraphone BBb the A is slightly sharp with the second valve slide in. With that in mind, adjust your valve slides when BBb is in tune and adjust the main slide with the orchestra. Of course, its always good to constantly adjust your horn as you play instead of setting the slides to one fixed place.
